    ^^;;;; I really ought to be trying to get some studying done for my Japanese midterm tomorrow! But instead I finished off the translation of Akai Hitsuji book 2... It could be argued that translating manga is kind of preparation for a Japanese midterm, except that the kanji being used in that manga don't overlap much at all with the ones we learn in class.

    Let's see here.

    Words/phrases I've learned from class: diary, engineering major, essay, professor, graduate student, "oh no I'm late!"...

    Words/phrases I've learned from Kaori Yuki: embalming, assassination, love-slave (God I wish I was kidding about that one, but no, it's there in Akai 2 #6, and there wasn't a darn thing I could do about it despite REALLY wanting a different way to say it; for Pete's sake it was supposed to sound like 'fairy-tale' language! But anyhow...) Some more Kaori Yuki words: tuberculosis, blood poisoning, vivisection, 'antimonial potassium and tartaric acid,' "aieeee! (gurk choke wheeze)"... ^^;;;

    I bet my professors are going to be SOOOOO scared by the stuff I come up with in my essays... ^_~

    Hahaha! I learned the most Chinese words from that one section in Kafka when Dr. Jezebel talks about the plague. Lots of nice medical terms I never knew about. ^^ Ohhhh and I never knew how to read the Chinese word for "corpse" until Count Cain. And now I see it's cropping up in EVERY Kaori Yuki manga and EVERY volume of Yami no Matsuei. O___O

    Also, I know at least eleven different ways of saying "AEEEIII", "GWAAAAAH", "EEEEE", "AAHHHH", "YAHHHHH", etc. now. XD And I know five different types of evil laughs.

    The wonders of learning language through manga.

    I dont know where I came across it, but manga taught me an onamatapeic word I'm just /dying/to use: "Zumi"
    That's the sound of anal penetration, apparently.

    ......O_o;;;;

    And I thought the weirdest Japanese sound effect on record was the sound of eyelids blinking, considering how extremely NON-audible that is.

    Either that or zuru-zuru, which is "the sound effect of something unfinished"... or "piri-piri," which is the sound effect of "burned tongue on hot tea" among others...

    And I'm pretty darn sure SOMEONE has come up with the Japanese sound effect for the proverbial tree falling in the forest with nobody there to hear it...

    But my hat's off to that one. The new record has now been set... @_@
